Identifying malignant cells with certainty is a crucial aspect of cancer surgery. That is why AOT has teamed up with researchers at the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, to develop a technology that will allow surgeons to analyze tissue with lasers as they operate.
“While tumours can be seen with the naked eye, the transition region between malignant and benign tissue poses a challenge”, says CMF surgeon Dr. med. Philipp Winnand. We at AOT are determined to solve this problem by creating a laser that enables surgeons to analyse removed tissue as they operate. With the prospect that this technology will increase the survival chances of cancer patients, Dr. Winnand is currently conducting first tests with our experimental setup at the University Hospital RWTH Aachen.
